Everton want to sign Wolves centre-back Conor Coady - Alan Myers

Everton reportedly want to sign Wolves centre-back Conor Coady this summer as Frank Lampard eyes more defensive reinforcements.

According to Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers, the Toffees manager is an admirer of the 29-year-old England international.

Coady has gone on to make 152 Premier League appearances and notably made his debut in the English top flight for Everton’s arch rivals Liverpool in the 2012/13 season.

Via Twitter, Myers wrote, “Everton want to sign Wolves defender Conor Coady. Frank Lampard is an admirer of the experienced centre-back, who’s been at Wolves for 7 years.”

Signing a Liverpool fan?

Coady has come up from the ranks at Liverpool and has also been born in the city.

He went on to excel in a number of age groups for the Reds and the expectations were that he would kick on to become a first-team regular.

However, he wanted regular games under his belt and decided to go out on loan to Sheffield United before signing for Huddersfield Town permanently.

It was then when the Wolves hierarchy took a liking to him and secured his services and he’s gone on to be one of their best players, earn the captaincy and also 10 English caps.

He is one of the most established senior defenders in the Premier League and would bring much-needed leadership into the Everton dressing room.

With Seamus Coleman unlikely to play as many games, Coady could even become the captain in-principle and it will be interesting to see if the Toffees end up signing him.

Hopefully, they can raise funds from Andre Gomes’ sale and sign the English defender with that money.
