Frank Lampard confirms Everton want to sign striker after defeat v Chelsea
Frank Lampard has confirmed that Everton are still working to sign a striker before the end of the ongoing transfer window.
The Toffees suffered a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League season opener on Saturday at Goodison Park.
Talking to Sky Sports Main Event after the match on Saturday night (6 August, 7:50pm), Lampard rued the fact that there was no out-an-out striker in the match against the Blues.

“We are looking at that [to sign a striker],” he said. “Because we should be able to replace a player like Dominic Calvert-Lewin who comes three days before the match injured. Solomon Rondon was suspended so yes we are looking at players who can play in that role.
“The way we played in the match, I thought we deserved someone in the middle putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Time running out
Everton’s transfer window is finally picking up some pace as they are close to completing the trio signing of Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Amadou Onana from Lille and Conor Coady from Wolves.
However, one area which must be a cause of concern for the Toffees is the attacking department where they’ve lost their arguably most valuable asset in Richarlison who ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The injury to Calvert-Lewin makes it even worse for Lampard as now he will only have one player in Solomon Rondon to play as an outright striker.
Therefore, it is imperative that the club must make a move, and that too quickly, to ensure that the Merseyside club have enough options in the final third to score crucial goals because that might prove to be a difference maker come the end of the season.
They’ve been linked with a number of players, most recently Chelsea’s Armando Broja, who at this stage seems very unlikely to leave the club with Timo Werner on the cusp of joining RB Leipzig on loan.
