Everton to miss out on Morgan Gibbs-White as Wolves make final transfer decision

Everton look set to miss out on midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White this summer after Wolves made the decision not to sell him during the transfer window.

That’s according to 90min [August 13], who say that despite Everton and Crystal Palace having bids of over £20m rejected and Nottingham Forest pushing to do a deal, the Midlands club have no intention of selling him.

Gibbs-White impressed while out on loan at Sheffield United last season and returned to Wolves in the summer, but wants regular first-team football as he seeks breaking into the England senior team.

But the 22-year-old has started both of the opening two Premier League games and despite rejecting a new deal at Molineux this summer he will stay at the club.

Everton have already signed Amadou Onana for their midfield in a deal worth around £33m, while Idrissa Gueye is also on the verge of a return to Goodison Park.

There was obviously interest in Gibbs-White earlier this summer to add a goalscoring and creative midfielder to the team that Lampard was looking to build.

However after a big bid was rejected, it seems the club have moved on and instead brought in Onana despite the two players having different profiles.

Everton have been tight for cash this summer so another big outlay in that position seems unlikely, even for a player that was described as “outstanding” by his manager in the Championship last season.

But with Wolves’ final decision being made now it has likely put an end to any potential re-think towards the end of the window, and the Toffees will need to look elsewhere if they want to strengthen the position now.

With a reported £40m+ asking price, for a player with minimal top flight experience, it would surely be too big of a gamble right now anyway and is probably for the best that he’s off the table as an option.
