Everton look to hijack Nottingham Forest deal for Brighton striker Neal Maupay - talkSPORT

Everton are pushing hard to sign Brighton striker Neal Maupay, despite Nottingham Forest being close to a £15m deal for the striker according to talkSPORT.

The Toffees are desperate for a striker signing after selling Richarlison to Tottenham earlier in the window, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out with yet another injury.

While interest in Maupay was reported, the 26-year-old was said to be close to joining newly-promoted club Forest. But talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook says there could be a “late twist” in the deal as Everton and Fulham push to do a deal.

“Could be a late twist in Neal Maupay’s move from [Brighton] to [Nottingham Forest] with both [Everton] and [Fulham] pushing for the Frenchman,” he posted on his personal Twitter account.

Maupay isn’t the prolific striker that this team needs, but he is a Premier League proven player and has done well enough to convince Frank Lampard that he will boost the team.

That’s enough that fans should be backing the signing, especially with just two weeks remaining in the window and time really running out to get players in.

Everton are desperate for a striker and someone like Maupay suits the way the team want to play, with constant running and energy, a good physical presence and solid all-round game.

The player was supposedly close to Forest, but until a deal is signed and completed then it’s always possible for someone else to step in. That’s what Everton need to do here.

It would be a huge boost to have a natural striker available for the weekend clash against Forest, rather than have him playing against us in that fixture. Get it done Mr. Thelwell.
