Alan Myers: Everton won’t sign a striker before Premier League clash v Nottingham Forest

Alan Myers has suggested that Everton won’t sign a new striker before their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Toffees are certainly on the lookout for new reinforcements, with The Guardian reporting (17 August) that the club are targeting Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

However, any chance of a striker being added to Frank Lampard’s squad before their match against Forest looks slim according to Sky Sports journalist Myers.

Myers replied to a question on Everton’s striker search on his personal Twitter account (17 August).

He said: “If I was a betting man, I’d say not before Saturday.”

Not looking good

The Toffees’ search for a striker seems to be going nowhere in recent weeks after the untimely injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Clubs will be fully aware of how desperate Everton are for a new striker and could now see it as an opportunity to up their asking price for any potential player to move to Goodison Park.

It’s important the club land the right player, but also they cannot go into too many more Premier League games without an adequate striker leading the line.

Anthony Gordon has done a good job of filling in upfront, but the 21-year-old is far better when operating in a wider position for Lampard’s side.

Everton

Everton have created chances in their opening Premier League fixtures, and if a striker had been leading the line, the outcome of their two defeats could have been very different.

Evertonians keep hearing that work is going on behind the scenes to bring a striker to the club but that has been a problem that has needed rectifying throughout the whole summer.

It is criminal that the Toffees have gone into their opening three Premier League fixtures without a suitable number nine.

Something has to give soon.
