Alan Myers would be amazed if Chelsea didn’t come back with an improved offer for Everton winger Anthony Gordon after seeing their first bid rejected.
The Times reported on 16 August that Everton have rejected a £45million bid from the West London club for Gordon.
The Toffees are reluctant to lose their young star this summer, but Myers has suggested (via Twitter, 17 August) that Chelsea could come back in for the 21-year-old.
Replying to a question asking about a new offer from Chelsea, the Sky Sports journalist said: “I’d be amazed if they don’t.”
Keep at all costs
If Chelsea return with an improved offer for Gordon around the £50million mark, the club hierarchy simply have to be completely dismissive of him leaving the club.
Gordon is a young player that Frank Lampard needs to build his squad around in the years to come.
There is a strong chance that his value will only increase and Everton must realise that selling him now will not benefit the club in the long term.
Whether Gordon wants to remain at Goodison Park could well cause some issues for the club moving forward.

He is Everton through and through and doesn’t seem like the type of character who be reluctant to play or won’t give 100% whilst he is wearing an Everton jersey.
However, the advances of Thomas Tuchel’s side could well be an exciting prospect for Gordon, with Champions League football and the opportunity to test himself at the highest level.
If Everton want to keep Gordon at the club, it is essential that they sell the project at Goodison Park to the 21-year-old.
There have been some good summer additions, but Gordon needs to know that he won’t be involved in another relegation battle in the 2022/23 campaign.
