Everton want to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, face competition from Manchester United
Everton are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, but face stiff competition from Manchester United according to the Daily Mail.
The Toffees are desperate to add to their attacking options this summer after the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggles with injuries and Anthony Gordon is being targeted by Chelsea and Manchester United.
That has seen Frank Lampard look into the market for a new goalscorer and Gakpo fits the bill, having scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Dutch club last season.

A move for Gakpo is expected to cost around £38m, but won’t be sanctioned until PSV know their fate in the Champions League as they face off with Rangers on Wednesday in the second leg of the qualifying round.
United are ready to step up their interest after a bid for Ajax winger Antony was rejected, but Everton retain an interest in the 23-year-old.
Amazing
This is exactly the type of signing that Everton need to be making in the transfer window this summer, but it’s unlikely to happen.
Gakpo is a goalscoring phenom capable of playing across the front line, but with a preference of cutting in from the left wing onto his right foot.
But with PSV likely to be in the Champions League next season, and Man United capable of offering Europa League football and huge wages it will be incredibly difficult for Everton to convince him to join in their current state.
However the profile of player, including his age, fee and talent level is exactly what the club need in order to be able to progress to the level that they want to be at – competing at the top end of the table for continental football as a minimum.
It’s positive news for fans that they are identifying this calibre of player for the squad, but also a reality check knowing they’re unlikely to be able to bring him in. Hopefully they can find someone similar to do the same role that can come in.
