Manchester United sent scout to watch Everton star Anthony Gordon on opening Premier League weekend

Manchester United sent a scout to watch Everton forward Anthony Gordon at Goodison Park on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

That’s according to The Mirror [August 17], who say they could launch a bid to usurp Chelsea for the winger after they had a £45m bid rejected earlier this week.

Gordon is said to be open to an exit, although Everton maintain that they have no interest in a sale and want to tie the 21-year-old down to a new contract.

United are in the transfer market for a wide forward and have been linked with a host of players, and Everton’s financial situation means they may be forced into a sale if a huge bid comes in.

Not another one

There’s been so many sagas involving this club this summer already, from Richarlison to Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Idrissa Gueye and now Gordon.

But in the case of Gordon so far it’s been Newcastle and Chelsea mainly, although Spurs had an interest attributed earlier in the window.

Manchester United’s involvement in the chase is new and with such a big price tag, the more teams the better for the price and Everton if a sale is to happen.

Obviously in an ideal world the club will be hoping they don’t lose another top attacker in the same window, considering they’re yet to replace the first one, but money rules everything and Everton need cash too.

It’s not known if Gordon would join Manchester United from Everton since they’re not in the Champions League, but the fact he’s open to a move away suggests he could potentially be convinced.a

It’s a tough situation and not something they need to even consider until United make their interest more concrete, but it’s certainly something to consider for all parties before the window slams shut in the next two weeks.
