John Barnes: Chelsea will only sign Everton star Anthony Gordon for a ‘ridiculous’ price
Liverpool legend John Barnes doesn’t expect Anthony Gordon to leave Everton for Chelsea this summer unless a “ridiculous price” is paid.
The Toffees have already rejected two bids from the London club, worth £43m and £45m in total, but they are expected to return with a bid worth around £50m to prise him away from Goodison Park.
Gordon has started all three of the club’s Premier League games so far this season and Barnes told BonusCodeBets that they will do everything they can to not lose him this summer.

“You are worth what somebody’s prepared to pay for you,” he said.
“So, regardless of whether we think he’s worth it or not, if Chelsea think he’s worth it, he’s worth it.
“He’s young, he’s English. Everton would like to keep their best players so I’m sure they won’t want to lose him.
“I doubt whether that transfer will happen at any price range. Otherwise it will be a very ridiculous price.”
Wow
This is going to sound crazy, but John Barnes is actually right about something.
There’s zero reason for Everton to sell Gordon unless they receive a bid that is simply out of this world, because Gordon is that important to the squad and the way that Frank Lampard wants to play this season.
The Sky Sports pundit usually goes against what most people say when it comes to hot topics, but on this one his logic is right.
He’s young, English, incredibly talented and Everton are in desperate need of improving their attacking options, not weakening them so a sale would have to benefit them and them only.
An outrageous bid would go some way to doing that, but the club would have to find a replacement first to ensure the squad isn’t weakened and the club can avoid another relegation battle this season, despite just one point from their first three games.
