Fabrizio Romano shares truth around Tottenham interest in Everton ace Anthony Gordon

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he is aware of fresh interest from Tottenham in Everton star Anthony Gordon, but Chelsea lead the way for his signature.

The Toffees turned down Spurs’ advances for Gordon during negotiations for Richarlison earlier in the window, while they also turned down a bid from Newcastle too.

They’ve now rejected two bids from Chelsea for the England Under-21 international, but the player has agreed personal terms and told Everton he wants to leave as they prepare a new £50m plus £10m in add-ons bid.

With Chelsea looking to close a deal this week, Spurs’ interest in the winger was reportedly revived, but Romano told his Caught Offside substack that the only offer on the table currently is from Chelsea.

“I’m aware there’s been talk of interest from Tottenham as well, but so far the only offer on the Everton table is from Chelsea,” he said.

“Negotiations continue, the personal terms between Gordon and Chelsea have been agreed. I think £60m is a very high price, honestly – but Todd Boehly wants to invest in young talent as an important part of the new Chelsea project.”

War?

A bidding war might be the ideal scenario for Everton in this situation, because the more money on the table the easier it is to justify a sale.

Chelsea’s offer is said to go as high as £60m and while Spurs and Newcastle supposedly value him much lower than that, if they were to return to the negotiation table it would give the Toffees plenty of leverage.

Everton

That would either drive the price up, or at the very least give the club a little bit more time to find a replacement while holding onto the player with the transfer deadline looming in eight days.

As it stands it seems unlikely that they will return at the price currently on the table, and that means Chelsea are likely to be successful, but that doesn’t take away the need for a replacement.

But if Everton lose Gordon before signing anyone then they’ll be in big trouble and the fans won’t be happy, so it’s a tight rope that they must walk and get right.
