Idrissa Gana Gueye set to fly to England to finalise Everton return

PSG midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye is set to fly to England to seal his return to Everton and sign a two-year deal according to L’Equipe.

The French news outlet revealed on Tuesday 30 August that the 32-year-old midfielder is set to fly to England on Tuesday evening or Wednesday.

It’s understood Gana Gueye will sign a two-year deal with the Toffees with the option of an extra year.

PSG are set to receive £8.6million for the Senegalese international.

Finally, it looks as though this move is going to get over the line after a long period of uncertainty.

It appeared that Gueye was set to sign for the Toffees a number of weeks ago but the deal had seemingly stalled as Frank Lampard looked to seal his return to Goodison Park.

iNews reported on 9 August that negotiations on a severance package was the reason for the deal being held up.

Gueye is an experienced player who Everton fans know all about and will provide depth and leadership in the Toffees’ midfield.

Everton

His presence could be excellent for the likes of Amadou Onana, as the 20-year-old adjusts to life in the Premier League after his move from Lille in the summer.

At 32, Gueye is unlikely to be a long-term solution for Lampard in the centre of midfield, but he does provide a cheaper option for Everton to explore with the Senegal international costing under £9million.

Evertonians will be desperate for Gueye to recreate the form he displayed during his previous time with the Toffees which saw him earn a move to the Ligue 1 giants.

There should be plenty of optimism from the club and fans that a deal does get done in the coming hours.
