Everton Women expert: Liverpool clash perfect chance to bounce back
We’re delighted to welcome Peter MacFarlane, member of the Everton Women Official Supporters Club, as our exclusive Everton Women expert.
Everton Women expert Peter MacFarlane believes this weekend’s Merseyside Derby is the perfect chance for the Toffees to bounce back after their opening day defeat to West Ham.
A first-half goal from Lisa Evans was enough for Paul Konchesky’s Hammers as Brian Sorensen got his Everton tenure off to a losing start.
Everton make the short trip to Anfield this weekend to face newly promoted Liverpool and MacFarlane feels it’s the perfect chance to kickstart their WLS campaign.
MacFarlane exclusively told Goodison News: “It was a disappointing start to the season at the weekend with the loss to West Ham, but it’s early days, and there is no bigger opportunity for the players to bounce back than a Merseyside Derby at Anfield.
“The last time we played at Anfield was a truly momentous day, with Lucy Graham scoring the winner from distance in the first half, but it was the second half performance which really showed what Everton Football Club is all about, with fight, grit, and determination in abundance.
“We will be going to face the old enemy in the league for the first time in a few years after our rivals spent 2 seasons down in the Championship, but an opening day victory against reigning champions Chelsea (aided by some questionable refereeing decisions) will give them confidence and no doubt their fans will come in numbers.“
The Merseyside Derby marks the run of a tricky set of fixtures for Everton with Leicester to come on Tuesday before Chelsea make the trip to Merseyside.
Despite the opening day defeat, our Women expert MacFarlane is delighted with the appointment of Sorensen and the summer additions he has made.
