Chelsea want to sign Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford next summer - report
Chelsea want to sign Jordan Pickford from Everton next summer after their failed bid to sign Anthony Gordon last year, reports Simon Phillips.
The Toffees fought off interest from the west London giants for their star winger, but goalkeeper Pickford’s reputation has grown in recent seasons after his excellent performances.
Now Chelsea are set to return to Goodison for one of the top players at the club, with Phillips reporting on his Substack that he is a target amid concerns over the future of current number one Edouard Mendy.
“The club are also looking at new goalkeepers for next summer, with Edouard Mendy’s future unclear,” he said.
“I am told that Jordan Pickford from Everton is on Chelsea’s radar. There are other names, but I haven’t got them yet.”
If you thought the fee for Gordon was high, wait till you see what we demand for Pickford.
The current England number one and a player who has established himself as one of the best in the league over recent seasons should be demanding a monstrous fee to be allowed to leave, especially at this stage of the squads rebuild.
Pickford has got a deal that is set to expire in 2024 currently, but there have been discussions about offering him a new deal to tie him down for the foreseeable future.
However with interest from Champions League regulars Chelsea is likely to turn his head, so it’s imperative that Everton get a deal with him done as soon as possible.
The fee we can demand will be lessened by the fact he’d be in the final year of his deal next summer should he not renew, but we have to stand firm and ensure we get a good deal if he absolutely has to leave.
