Joleon Lescott predicts scoreline of Everton Premier League match v Newcastle

Joleon Lescott has predicted his former Everton side to suffer yet another defeat when they take on Newcastle in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Magpies showed that they can go toe to toe with the league’s big boys in their performances against Manchester City and Liverpool.

They will be fancying their chances against an Everton side reeling from a tame attacking display against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

Speaking to Livescore, Lescott said, “Newcastle have a remarkable record at home as they welcome Everton to St James’ Park.

“The Magpies are sitting pretty in sixth and will have aims to challenge those above them in the coming weeks.

“Everton’s improvement this season has impressed me but Eddie Howe’s men will fancy themselves on Tyneside.

“Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Everton.”

Response needed

If Frank Lampard’s men fail to show a response in this game, they’re unlikely to finish in the top half this season as they’re letting teams they should give a fight to, simply pick up three points against them.

While Newcastle have spent a lot of money, their squad isn’t as good as the big six and the Toffees must go all guns blazing.

They cannot play on the counter against every team as that’s very unsustainable and it lowers their chances of picking up points because of their risk-averse approach.

It’s also time for the likes of Anthony Gordon, Neal Maupay and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to show that they can turn games on their hand with brilliant attacking displays.

Thus far, they’ve been tame in front of goal and it’s the defenders and midfielders that have stood up and responded to Lampard’s coaching.

If the Toffees put in a similar performance to that they did against Spurs, we do not see them even getting a draw from this one.
