Everton team news: Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye both available
Frank Lampard has suggested that Idrissa Gana Gueye and Amadou Onana should be fit for Everton when they face Bournemouth on Saturday.
The duo missed the midweek League Cup defeat to the Cherries after suffering injuries in the Toffees’ Premier League defeat to Leicester City.
However, Lampard has confirmed Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now out until after the World Cup after suffering his shoulder against the Foxes.
“He’s [Calvert-Lewin] got an injury and he’s had a few bangs, to be fair. We hope that the break comes at a good time for him and he’ll be available for Wolves on Boxing Day,” said Lampard (quoted by The Liverpool Echo, 11 November).
“[On Onana and Gueye]They’re fit. They’ve trained so as long as we don’t have any issues in the next 24 hours, they’ll be available.”
The pressure is really starting to grow on Lampard and the Everton boss only has himself to blame after the Toffees’ miserable performance against Bournemouth in the League Cup. He rang the changes and paid the price. A victory on the South Coast is now a must for Lampard particularly after the Toffees suffered a 2-0 defeat to Leicester in their last Premier League fixture.
A win would see Evertonians head into the World Cup break relatively happy with their season to date. However, another defeat could see Lampard’s side fall into the relegation zone after a poor run of form. Considering the summer transfer activity it would be a big failure from the Everton boss if they did end up in the bottom three.
The Toffees did cause the Cherries problems in their League Cup fixture at the Vitality Stadium, but they must defend better than what they did on Tuesday evening (8 November). Everton are likely to be without Mason Holgate for the trip back to the South Coast after he was forced off with an injury.
