Gary Lineker and BBC Sport pundits in hysterics at Jordan Pickford after what Everton ace did v Wales

Jordan Pickford left the BBC Sport punditry panel bemused after the Everton goalkeeper produced a comical moment during England’s World Cup win over Wales.

The 28-year-old decided to sarcastically dive for Joe Allen’s wayward shot in the first half of the match, with the ball nowhere near the goal.

The moment left Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Ashley Willams and Ian Rush laughing during halftime of the Three Lions group stage match.

Talking BBC Sport, Lineker said: “We’ll I think he might have it covered. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a goalkeeper who dives for balls which are going high and wide more than Pickford.”

Shearer added: “He hasn’t had anything to do has he!”

That was a routine night’s work for England and Pickford. The group stage has been relatively straightforward for the Everton goalkeeper, but the 28-year-old will undoubtedly be busier in the latter stages of the tournament. Pickford thrives in big moments, and there will be plenty of important saves for the keeper to make in the coming weeks.

If England are to go all the way in Qatar, they will need Pickford to be on top form for the remainder of the competition. From an Everton perspective, there will be some concern when it comes to the 28-year-old’s future at Goodison Park. His current deal comes to a close in the summer of 2024 and there will be other clubs vying for his services.

The Telegraph has reported (24 September) Manchester United are one keeping tabs on Pickford’s current situation, with David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford up in the air.

Everton must ensure they prioritise getting Pickford tied down to a new deal at Goodison Park, with his performances last year playing a big part in the Toffees avoiding relegation.
