Financial update emerges as Everton boss Frank Lampard linked with England job
Everton manager Frank Lampard reportedly fits within the FA’s “financial parameters” as they consider options if Gareth Southgate steps down.
According to The Telegraph [12 December], the FA would not want to smash its wage structure or pay a big compensation for a manager currently at a club.
However, Lampard, whose deal runs out in 2024, is understood to fit right within their budget should Southgate choose to leave.

Surely not?
The England job is not one that most people would want as it’s not a day-to-day role and the criticism that you get is unparalleled.
Throughout his coaching career, Lampard’s enjoyed the club role and the grind of going into training every day and not once in a few months during international breaks.
Southgate too, was under immense pressure to select certain players and play a certain brand of football, regardless of the results.
Lampard is happier being away from the spotlight and if he’s being backed by the Everton board to bring in the players he wants, there’s little reason why he would want to leave.
While the FA are said to be considering him as one of the options if Southgate does leave, we do not see him accepting it.
Everton would also demand a decent compensation so England are likelier to go down the route of Steven Gerrard who is currently not at any club.
