Sky Sports man gushes over Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in loss v Southampton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been lauded for the save he made at the stroke of half-time against Southampton on Saturday, 14 January.

That save ensured that the Toffees went into the break with a 1-0 lead and something to build on in the second half.

However, that did not happen as they conceded two in the second period and lost the game 2-1 and dropped down to 19th place.

Speaking on the Premier League world feed, Ian Crocker, a Sky Sports commentator said at 15:49 on 14/01, “Big, huge, massive save for Pickford on the stroke of half-time.”

Good but not good enough

Pickford’s save was exceptional but in the grand scheme of things, it did not really do anything for the Toffees.

It may have given them a lead to take into the break, but the team that came out in the second period was a completely different one.

What Lampard told them at the break, we’re not sure but it seems pretty clear that whatever it was, it didn’t work.

They looked passive and leggy and once the Saints took the lead, the hosts did very little to show that they’ve got some fighting spirit left to go and seize the initiative.

We’re not sure if sacking Lampard will change anything but the new manager bounce has worked for clubs around Everton in the relegation battle.

They need fresh ideas to get out of this mess and at least ensure that they do not drop down into the Championship as it’ll be a financial disaster.
