BBC Pundit: Frank Lampard could be sacked tonight after Everton loss v West Ham United

Frank Lampard could be sacked tonight by Everton after they were beaten by West Ham in the Premier League, according to Stephen Warnock.

The Toffees fell to a 2-0 defeat thanks to two first-half goals from Jarrod Bowen at the London Stadium, meaning Everton are only not bottom of the table on goal difference as we pass the half way point in the season.

And while appearing on BBC Final Score (21 January, 16:09), Warnock predicted that the former Chelsea midfielder would get sacked “tonight” if they didn’t win the game.

“He should look concerned because the style of play, the lack of opportunities created within the game, and ultimately there’s one man who that falls with and that’s Frank Lampard,” he said.

“That’s the horrible nature of being a manager.

“I’m going to throw my neck on the line and say that if they don’t this, he goes tonight.”

Has to go

There is no excuses anymore. The board are a mess and the club is in disarray, but Everton are simply not playing anywhere near as well as they should be with the players they have.

Lampard has been backed heavily in the transfer market, and while circumstances mean that the squad isn’t as strong as it needs to be, it’s still better than this.

We can’t score goals to save our lives, and while Arnaut Danjuma has been brought in on a season-long loan deal now, the fact that Anthony Gordon is the top scorer in the Premier League with three says it all.

He hasn’t been able to implement any sort of style since arriving at the club a year ago, and we’ve gone backwards, with Lampard having a worse record than Rafa Benitez when we sacked him.

We only survived last year with one game to spare, and now Everton must look to go again with a new manager or we may not be able to survive another close call.
