BT Sport pundit: Everton ‘deserve to go down’ after what Farhad Moshiri and board have done

Steve Sidwell believes Everton “need to go down” after the way Farhad Moshiri has run the club, following their 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

The Toffees fell to an 11th defeat in 14 games in all competitions under Frank Lampard thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s double on Saturday (21 January), leaving Everton off the bottom of the table only on goal difference.

And speaking on BT Sport Score (21 January, 16:57) after the result, Sidwell claimed that the club “deserve to go down” after spending over £500m on transfers and with the way the club has been run over the last two years.

“In a way I feel like they need to go down,” he said.

“The way they’ve spent money. You’re telling me the way they’ve spent, over half a billion, on the players that they’ve bought, how they’ve run that club for the last two years, in the situation they’re in that they don’t deserve to go down?”

Nonsense

What an awful thing to say from someone who played football professionally and knows very well how much fans care about their teams.

Everton have struggled for a long time on the pitch, but for even longer off it and it’s all down to the decisions the board and owner have made over the years.

There is no doubt that Frank Lampard is way out of his depth as manager of the football team too, but his job has been made so much harder by the nonsense going on above him.

But to say a whole club deserves to be relegated because of the actions of a few people is ridiculous and completely forgets about the fans and how much the club does for the community.

We need to fight hard to stay up and shut Sidwell up, but also to survive because the future of the club could well be dependant on it if you consider all the financial problems that have been stacking up over the years.
