Anthony Gordon absent from Everton training as Newcastle United get ready for transfer announcement - Sky Sports

Anthony Gordon was a “planned” absence from Everton training on Tuesday as speculation over the 21-year-old’s future continues to grow, as reported by Vinny O’Connor.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards claimed (24 January) Newcastle United are now confident when it comes to signing Gordon and that they hope to announce an agreement after their League Cup semi-final first leg against Southampton on Tuesday (24 January)

Sky Sports journalist O’Connor has since revealed (via Twitter, 24 January) that Gordon, along with Amadou Onana, were both absent from training on Tuesday.

“Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana both planned absences from Everton training today,” wrote O’Connor.

The past couple of days have been some of the most chaotic in the club’s history and the drama doesn’t appear to be coming to a close anytime soon. Gordon has been heavily linked with the Goodison Park exit over the past year and it would not be a surprise to see this move go through.

Everton are in desperate need of a cash injection and the 21-year-old’s exit could allow the club to complete some vital business as the window comes to a close.

Had the club been in a more favourable league position a move like this would be completely out of the question. However, due to the need for immediacy in the transfer window, it could be concluded quite soon.

Gordon has not been the player Evertonians expected him to be in recent months and a fresh start could do him good as he looks to get his career back on track after a disappointing start to the season.
