Last-minute surprise deal on the cards for Everton to sign Udinese striker Beto, big-money bid tabled

Everton have tabled a last-gasp bid for Udinese striker Beto as Sean Dyche desperately tries to add to his squad before Tuesday’s deadline, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

According to Tutto Mercato Web editor Marco Conterio (via Twitter, 31 January), the Toffees have made a £22million bid for the 25-year-old Portuguese striker.

Tuttomercatoweb have since claimed (31 January) the bid has come as a “surprise” to the Serie A side and that they’re currently evaluating Everton’s offer. It’s believed Napoli is interested in a summer move.

Needed now

We can’t say we know much about Beto, but he’s a striker who has scored goals in Serie A and considering Everton’s luckless transfer window, they need to get a move over the line. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled in the 2022/23 campaign and Neal Maupay has been a disappointment. Realistically, the club have to bring in more competition up front.

Dyche has been dealt a very rough hand during his first couple of days in the Everton hot seat and he will be desperate for one or two new recruits to arrive before the window reaches its conclusion. Attacking signings have to be a priority.

The board have only got themselves to blame for the club’s current position in the transfer market. The decision to sack Frank Lampard was delayed for far too long and has given the former Burnley boss just a matter of hours to bring new players to the club.

Beto is another to add to a very long list of potential targets – let’s just this one potentially comes to fruition.
