Nottingham Forest now firm favourites to sign Andre Ayew despite Everton talks
Nottingham Forest are now “firm favourites” to complete the signing of Andre Ayew despite talks with Everton, according to Graeme Bailey.
The Ghanian international is possibly the Toffees’ last chance of making an attacking signing, having missed out on a host of targets during the January window.
But after Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett reported that the 33-year-old was in Nottingham to speak to Steve Cooper’s side it now appears they are set to add further market misery to Everton’s current plight.
Reporting on Twitter the 90min transfer journalist Bailey wrote: “After arriving in England last night – Nottingham Forest are firm favourites to clinch the signature of Andrew Ayew.
“A number of clubs including Everton have had talks – but he is on his way to the City Ground.”
Empty handed
It is pretty hard to escape the conclusion now that players themselves have concluded a move to Goodison Park will do them no good.
With the likes of Kamaldeen Sulemana and Paul Onuachu opting to move to bottom club Southampton over joining the Toffees, and now Ayew apparently choosing Forest instead it doesn’t look good for the club’s image.
Arnaut Danjuma had appeared to be making the exact opposite noises when he reached the brink of signing on loan, but even he slipped through Everton’s fingers when Tottenham swooped in to take advantage of Frank Lampard’s sacking.

So this currently leaves new manager Sean Dyche to take over a squad that is already 19th in the Premier League and has since sold Anthony Gordon to Newcastle.
He will of course look to reorganise and improve the current squad, but he surely would have hoped for some reinforcements, to at least replace the winger.
With the window closed the options are now severely reduced, if not entirely dried up, so there are yet more major questions for the club’s board to answer, and a highly underwhelming introduction for Dyche.
