Chris Sutton reacts to 'incredible' Everton win v Arsenal with Sean Dyche joke

Chris Sutton has praised the “incredible performance” of Everton in their 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal on Saturday in his instant reaction to the game.

The Toffees picked up their first league win since October to move out of the relegation zone for the time being thanks to James Tarkowski’s first goal for the club in Dyche’s first game as manager.

Reacting to the performance on his personal Twitter account (4 January) immediately after the final whistle, BT Sport and BBC pundit Sutton was quick to make a joke about the bleep tests the team went through in training during the week and praised the manager for his role in the win.

“It’s amazing what a bleep test can do..” he wrote.

“Incredible performance from Everton. Well played Sean Dyche.”

Dyche quickly clarified that all the work he did in the week wasn’t a dig at Frank Lampard’s previous tenure, but more about getting a measure of where his squad currently is.

It showed on the pitch as he trusted his players like Abdoulaye Doucoure to perform a certain task and they delivered despite being banished previously, with a raucous Goodison Park crowd right behind them all the way.

That is exactly what the team needed, and why the decision to sack Lampard was the right one regardless of how popular he was and what he had done previously.

Now all attention must turn away from this game and focus on the Merseyside derby with Liverpool next week, because we’ve been able to see already how quickly fortunes can change and a string of results can see us move away from relegation relatively quickly.

A brilliant performance that deserves plenty of praise and credit, but the job has only just begun. What a win.
