Dele Alli ‘looks finished’ at Everton as Besiktas saga unfolds

Dele Alli “looks finished” at Everton amid a hugely disappointing loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas, according to the Mirror’s Andy Dunn.

The midfielder has fallen out of favour at his temporary club, with the former England international even accused of going AWOL earlier this month by manager Senol Gunes.

And questioning why no one ever took a moment to offer some guidance to Alli, Dunn believes the Everton loanee will struggle to find a permanent home at Goodison Park.

“According to Senol Gunes, Dele Alli went AWOL for a couple of days last week, a claim denied by the former Tottenham player,” Dunn wrote in the Sunday Mirror (26 March, page 67). “But we all know the Besiktas manager was wrong anyway… Dele went AWOL a long while ago.”

Dunn added: “In terms of a place among the elite bracket of players, he looks finished now and you can only wonder how someone did not find a way to keep him on track, to help him out if he needed help.

“Perhaps the relatively new Everton manager will, when Dele returns to Goodison Park, but you suspect Sean Dyche would be unimpressed by his attitude.”

One last chance?

Alli’s downfall has been a real shame to witness, with the once-talented midfielder having the world at his feet not long ago.

Dyche has a lot on his plate right now, and the future of Alli may be very low on his list of priorities as the manager looks to ensure Everton’s Premier League survival.

But the man in the dugout will also have one eye on the summer transfer window, with Alli set to feature heavily in the talk surrounding the Toffees.

The club will need everyone pulling in the same direction next season, whether they are playing Premier League or Championship football.

Could the manager take it upon himself to be the person to offer Alli guidance, and subsequently get his career back on track?

That will have to work two ways, however, with the midfielder needing to put in the work behind the scenes, and that includes improving his attitude.

There is no doubting the 26-year-old’s ability when he is at his best, but sadly that best has not been witnessed for a very long time.
