Danny Murphy rips into Harry Kane for what he did in Everton draw v Tottenham, Simon Jordan agrees live on talkSPORT

Danny Murphy has admitted he was “absolutely disgusted” by Harry Kane after he went down after being pushed in the face by Everton ace Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The Toffees were reduced to ten men when Doucoure pushed Kane in the face just before the hour mark, but Kane has drawn criticism for theatrically falling down to exaggerate the contact.

And reacting live on talkSPORT commentary during the game (3 April), Murphy was furious with the England captain for “stitching up” an opponent to gain an advantage and accused him of “cheating”.

“I’m absolutely disgusted by Harry Kane me,” Murphy (3 April).

“I know players do it but I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t be stitching up [another player]. That’s not enough to send him on the floor embarrassing himself.

“I’m sorry. It’s a gestured push in the face, I mean it’s a sending off because of the letter of the law but why has he gone over like that stitching up someone?

“Well I know why, because all players want to win by cheating. He would’ve got sent off anyway if he’d stayed on his feet.”

Well said

Nobody is defending what Doucoure did to Kane and it absolutely was a red card because you can’t raise your hands to an opponent’s face.

However, what Kane did is just purely wrong from a moral point of view and sets the wrong example for anyone watching that cheats actually do prosper.

Doucoure would have been sent off anyway, even if Kane hadn’t gone down, but it just adds to the prospect that players will continue to cheat to get an advantage.

We can’t be against diving to win penalties and simulation, but then not complain when someone exaggerates the effects of a motion that is already a red card. It’s pathetic and cheating.

Kane should be embarrassed by what he did and he’s rightfully being called out for it in the media after the game, and thankfully it didn’t cost Everton the game and vital points in the relegation battle.
