Swansea cash bid on the cards to sign Everton striker Tom Cannon with Sean Dyche decision due

Swansea could make a cash offer for Everton loanee Tom Cannon this summer, according to newspaper journalist Alan Nixon.

The striker joined Preston North End on loan from the Toffees in January, and has hit the ground running with eight goals from his 19 matches.

Cannon’s impressive displays have caught the eye of Preston’s Championship rivals Swansea, who could turn to the youngster this summer if they lose star striker Joel Piroe.

“Everton striker Tom Cannon is a wanted man – with Swansea now rivalling Preston to take him next season,” Nixon wrote on Patreon. “The Welsh outfit are strong on Republic of Ireland under-21 cap Cannon who has been a huge hit for North End on loan.

“Swans had been asking about Cannon before he scored against them last week and his performance only confirmed their thoughts. Everton boss Sean Dyche will look at Cannon in pre-season and may even promote him to his first team squad.

“But if Cannon is allowed out again then Swans will be trying as hard as Preston and may even make a cash offer if they lose top scorer Joel Piroe.”

Wanted man

Cannon has made a huge impact since his January move to Preston, with his initial struggles in front of goal now forgotten about given his superb run of form in recent times.

The 20-year-old failed to hit the back of the net in his first seven league matches for his temporary club, but has turned things around dramatically with eight goals in his last 11 matches.

Preston and Swansea are currently involved in a battle for the highest league finish this season, with just one point separating the two clubs.

But that battle could be extended to the transfer window, with both sides seemingly keen on Cannon’s services for the next campaign.

Any pursuit, however, undoubtedly depends on what Dyche has planned for the young striker, with Everton also in need of some attacking firepower.

Their Premier League safety looks likely to have an impact on Cannon’s future, so it seems that any decision on the striker will have to wait until the summer.
