Everton transfer news as Sky Sports pundit reacts to Tammy Abraham reports amid rival interest from Aston Villa

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell is a big fan of Roma striker Tammy Abraham but is not confident Everton can sign him despite being linked to a move.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported on 9 March that the Toffees and Aston Villa were “at the front of the queue” for the former Chelsea man, although he currently has a fixed price of €75million [£67million], matching the buy-back clause the Londoners have according to i on 2 March.

In that context it isn’t a deal that Sky Sports pundit Campbell can see happening from an Everton perspective, and if the 25-year-old is to go anywhere a return to Villa Park where he had a successful season on loan in the Championship is more likely.

The former Toffees captain exclusively told Goodison News: “I like him. I like him a lot. I think he’s a really good player.

“But I can’t see it happening. Especially since he’s been at Villa, he knows that club. He was on loan there.

“So I think that one is not happening.”

In many ways the England international would be the ideal replacement or support for oft-injured Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and with 26 Premier League goals for Chelsea and Swansea has shown he can find the net in the league.

But even before the most recent Toffees accounts came out and the roof apparently fell in once more on the finances it would have been a surprise for the club to spend anywhere near £70million for one player, let alone now.

There seems little chance of a knock down price for Abraham either with Chelsea and Villa both potentially in the mix, and Roma only likely to sell for a hefty fee.
