Journalist shares reception Anthony Gordon received from Everton supporters at Goodison Park

Former Everton player Anthony Gordon was booed by the Goodison Park crowd when stepping onto the pitch for his Newcastle warmup on Thursday evening, according to Joe Thomas.

Gordon, 22, left the Merseyside club for Newcastle in January after skipping three consecutive days of training at Finch Farm without explanation and shortly afterwards sealing his £45million move away from the club.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday evening (27 April) prior to kickoff against the Magpies, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas shared the reception that Gordon received when warming up at Goodison Park.

“Boos for Anthony Gordon as he enters the pitch for his warm-up,” he wrote.

“They rippled around the stadium, getting louder as more people noticed his arrival.”

Oh dear

It was always going to be a spiky reception for Gordon whenever he made his return to Everton, and it seems it has ended up this way.

The young attacker was one of Everton’s best products to come out of the academy in years, and nobody can blame him for moving on to pastures greener, but it was more the circumstances in which he left the club that left a bitter taste.

The Englishman seemingly forced through his move in the latter stages of the window and actually left Everton with no time to get a replacement in before the window shut.

His Newcastle career hasn’t quite kicked off as first hoped, hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently when storming off the pitch and pushing his way past Eddie Howe on the sideline – so he certainly has a point to prove.

Hopefully, he won’t come back to haunt Everton tonight with huge points up for grabs for the Merseyside outfit.
