Anthony Gordon misses Everton training again as Newcastle United transfer speculation ramps up
Anthony Gordon has missed Everton training for a second day as a transfer to Newcastle United ramps up, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
Gordon was absent from training on Monday along with Amadou Onana as talk about a potential exit before the January transfer deadline next week.
But while Onana’s absence was explained as being scheduled for a wedding, Gordon’s has yet to be explained and the 21-year-old winger is missing from the group once again on Tuesday.
“Anthony Gordon missing from Everton training today – for a second day running – as Newcastle’s pursuit of the attacker intensifies,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (25 January).
“Gordon is open to the move, [Newcastle] want him this window. But there remains a gap in the two clubs’ valuation of the player.”
Unless the player is injured, which would be unlikely with a transfer seemingly on the horizon, then there is no reason he shouldn’t be in training.
Everton don’t have a game for a fortnight when they’ll play Arsenal, and that is after the transfer window slams shut, but if the deal doesn’t go through then it would be highly likely that Gordon plays that game.
Because of that, it’s mad that he is skipping training or that the club is allowing him not to train considering we need to be in tip-top condition for the relegation battle on our hands.
A deal looks likely to happen in the next week and Everton will get some much needed funds through the door, but until it’s done he is an Everton player and he should be treated the same as the rest of the squad.
