Besiktas open talks with Yerry Mina agent ahead of imminent Everton exit

Yerry Mina’s agent has held talks with Turkish giants Besiktas about a summer transfer at the end of his Everton contract, according to Fanatik.

The Colombian defender is set to see his contract expire after the final game of the season against Bournemouth, and there are no signs of a renewal being offered at this stage.

Besiktas boss Senol Gunes has identified the former Barcelona defender as someone he wants as part of his squad next season with “serious progress” made recently, and talks have now been opened about bringing him in on a free transfer.

“Everton’s Yerry Mina is at the top of the agenda for the centre-back transfer,” they wrote (19 May).

“Contacts continue for the Colombian football player, who played in 5 matches in the Premier League this season. It was noted that negotiations started with the experienced stopper’s manager.”

No shock

There is absolutely no shock that Mina is likely to be leaving Everton this season because until recently he was not even in the manager’s thoughts.

Mina has suffered with injury problems a lot since coming from Barcelona and has never really been able to cement himself as a regular in the team because of that.

He is known to be on big wages and with the club’s current financial situation being very messy, plus the fact that the club don’t know if they’ll be in the Premier League or Championship next season, then it seems impossible that they can offer him fresh terms.

That has opened the window for other teams to come in and talk to Mina, and Besiktas have moved quickly to get a deal over the line for the new season.

He’ll be waved goodbye and Everton fans won’t really bat an eyelid too much, but he absolutely must be replaced because when fit there is an argument that he’s our best defender.
