Everton transfer news as Middlesbrough seeking £20m to sell Chuba Akpom

Everton have been checking on Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom ahead of a potential summer move and the Teeside outfit are willing to sell this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The 27-year-old hitman has enjoyed a sensational individual campaign in the Championship netting a whopping 28 goals and registering two assists from 36 games and was awarded with the EFL Player of the Year recently.

However, with his contract having just a year to run on his current deal, Middlesbrough are prepared to sell in order to fund a potential summer rebuild for Michael Carrick, according to TEAMtalk [24 May].

“The club’s prized asset Chuba Akpom is the most likely departure given he also has just 12 months left on his current deal.

“Crystal Palace are long-term admirers of Akpom, as TEAMtalk has already revealed. Meanwhile, Everton, Wolves, Leicester and Brentford have checked on him as well.

“In terms of a transfer fee, Boro would be looking to get close to £20m for Akpom”, TEAMtalk reveals.

Everton desperately need goals for next season and with the dreadful position the team has found themselves in so far, they need someone reliable both in their fitness and of course finding the back of the net with great regularity.

Akpom represents the perfect opportunity given his remarkable form this season. 28 goals in 36 Championship games is absolutely outstanding and highlights a player capable of taking that kind of form into the English top flight.

Once labelled “fantastic” by Carrick due to their relationship being key to Akpom’s tremendous form, the former Arsenal man is well destined to lead the line for a Premier League club in the near future.

But, with Everton facing a tough fight to stay in the Premier League, they could well see their Premier League rivals beat them to Akpom’s signature.

However, if Everton are desiring to sign the best strikers around, they would need to secure their Premier League status and Akpom is a potential opportunity they can’t afford to miss out on.

Should they remain in the top flight next season, they simply have to try their luck in order to fully and finally rebuild an ailing squad.
