Andy Lonergan Everton future ‘unclear’ despite Finch Farm verdict
Andy Lonergan’s future at Everton is “unclear” despite the goalkeeper being “well respected” at the club, according to the Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas.
The goalkeeper joined the Toffees on a one-year deal in the summer of 2021, extending that deal by another year last summer.
But now his contract at Goodison Park is expiring, with the player having yet to make a single appearance for the club.

“Jordan Pickford’s deputy Asmir Begovic looks set to depart at the end of the month while the future of third-choice keeper Andy Lonergan is also unclear with his current deal soon to expire,” Thomas wrote for the Liverpool Echo.
“Lonergan is well respected by both Sean Dyche and the Everton goalkeeping department and was named alongside Begovic on the bench in the final games of the Premier League season.”

Uncertain future
Lonergan definitely won’t be the priority for Everton when it comes to the summer transfer window, with Dyche desperate to strengthen his squad in several other areas.
But of course the goalkeeper position is a very important one, with the Toffees set to lose back-up Begovic in the coming weeks, meaning Pickford will need someone to help keep the competition for places nice and high.
Given the fact he hasn’t played for the Toffees in his two years there, Lonergan seems unlikely to be the man trusted with that number two role.
But it seems that the 39-year-old remains well respected and highly valued at Goodison Park, perhaps for his experience and his usefulness on the training ground in keeping the likes of Pickford in top form.
Lonergan’s contract on Merseyside is set to expire later this month, although perhaps plans have already been made behind the scenes to extend his time at the club.
