Everton attacker Demarai Gray risks isolating supporters after controversial statement

Everton attacker Demarai Gray reacted controversially to the news that Ishe Samuels-Smith had left the club to join Chelsea on a permanent basis.

The teenager was one of the brightest prospects in the club’s academy but opted to jump ship and move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea ended up paying £4million to secure the services of the 17-year-old, per the Athletic.

The teenager then took to Instagram to say his final goodbyes to his boyhood club and said that it was the right time for a new challenge.

Gray, rather than just stopping short of wishing him luck, claimed that it made sense to leave Everton, despite being contracted to the club.

He wrote on Sunday, 9 July, “Makes sense. Well done bro.”

These statements aren’t really putting him in a positive light as he’s encouraging players to leave Everton for “better” clubs.

Nobody would disagree that the Toffees aren’t a dysfunctional side, but if the players cannot portray a positive light and show unity behind the scenes, the fans are certainly going to be fuming.

Even in the replies, a few of them have given Gray a piece of their mind and this is undoubtedly in bad taste and Gray needs to delete it.

He might feel that a move to Chelsea is a step up from Everton and that’s perfectly all right, but the fact that he’s still at the club means that he should not be posting it.

Sean Dyche is already not a huge fan of players using social media more than necessary and if he certainly will not be pleased with Gray saying this if he does happen to come across it.

It’s a pretty strange thing for a current club employee to do on social media.

In other Everton news, an exit-linked Toffees player has recently been spotted in talks with a senior Goodison Park figure ahead of the new season.
