Luton Town terms update emerges as Everton win race to sign former Aston Villa and Manchester United ace Ashley Young

Everton announced the signing of former Manchester United and Aston Villa full-back Ashley Young, beating Luton Town to his services.

According to Football Transfers journalist Jacque Talbot on 13 July, the newly-promoted Premier League side offered similar terms as the Toffees to sign the 38-year-old.

However, he picked the move to Goodison Park and will now be working under the stewardship of Sean Dyche.

Important signing

Young may not have been the first name on anyone’s mind when asked to guess who the first summer signing for Everton would be.

Having seen the side struggle to score goals and losing two centre-backs and perhaps more, many would’ve said it would be a quality defender or striker.

However, the 38-year-old utility man has come in on a free and will be an important signing as he can be a Jack of all Trades for them.

He can play at right-back, left-back and on the wings and has even previously played in central midfield for Manchester United.

Some may say that his age is an issue, but he isn’t being signed for the long term and he’s just a short-term fix due to the club’s lack of funds.

Hopefully, they do sign another good centre-back and striker and a better wide attacker than Anthony Elanga from Manchester United.

In other Everton news, an exit-linked Toffees player has recently been spotted in talks with a senior Goodison Park figure ahead of the new season.
