Sean Dyche mooted to be reason as fresh twist emerges in Everton quest to sign Manchester United attacker Anthony Elanga

Sean Dyche’s style of football may be why Manchester United attacker Anthony Elanga does not want to join Everton, claims Dean Jones.

The former Eurosport journalist told Give Me Sport [20 July], the Sweden international wants a club that fits his style of play.

It’s also understood that the Toffees had a clear run at signing the 21-year-old left winger and will be disappointed at missing out on his services.

Jones said, “It would be a disappointment for Everton because they probably felt they had a clear run at him, at this stage, because nobody else was showing interest, especially at Premier League level.

“Now, for Elanga, I guess he will want to be finding a team that fits his profile and style. Maybe he feels that a Sean Dyche team is not that for him.

“There are probably also question marks, for any player, about joining a team that is showing signs of just being constantly in a relegation battle. Do you want to be a part of that?”

Blessing in disguise

If Elanga could not cut it at a team that had talented players in all positions, there’s no reason to believe he would manage to carry a team like Everton on his back.

It seems like Arnaut Danjuma is walking through the door and he’s delivered numbers previously to prove that he can to a good job.

For Elanga, he’s frustrated United fans time and again and even they will be happy to see the back of him.

Dyche and Everton may want him but there are much better options out there and they need to be focusing on those right now.

If Dyche sees Danjuma as a wide player on the left and continues to be linked with Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto, the Italy international could probably play as a striker.

This would take the onus away from Dominic Calvert-Lewin who’s struggled time and again with his fitness for the Toffees.

In other Everton news, an exit-linked Toffees player has recently been spotted in talks with a senior Goodison Park figure ahead of the new season.
