Everton and Newcastle to fight it out as Oumar Solet transfer update emerges

Everton and Newcastle are both keen on signing RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet in this summer transfer window, claim the Daily Mail.

According to the British newspaper [29 July], the Toffees may now make a move to sign the 23-year-old ahead of the Saudi-owned club while they could also look to do the same.

Solet, a French centre-back, impressed at the Lyon academy before he was recruited by the Austrian outfit.

Good option

Solet isn’t a defender who’s on the radar of the big teams in Europe so it will be easier to secure his services.

Everton do not have the money to get into bidding wars so if Newcastle, with their super rich owners, end up splashing the cash on the Frenchman, it’ll be curtains.

However, if they have other options in mind, the Toffees can quietly enter talks and look to agree a deal at the earliest.

Solet has won the Austrian Bundesliga on two occasions and it seems like he’s outgrown the league and will want to try his hand at a more competitive completion.

It does not get any better than the Premier League, especially while playing for a historic club like Everton.

If Newcastle do not offer more money than the Toffees, there’s every chance of them being able to get this deal over the line.

In other Everton news, an exit-linked Toffees player has recently been spotted in talks with a senior Goodison Park figure ahead of the new season.
