Alan Myers shares Wilfried Gnonto update as Everton transfer news emerges

Everton are still interested in signing Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto despite being close to announcing Sporting Lisbon forward Youseff Chermiti, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports News editor, updated fans on the Toffees interest via his Twitter account (7 August) declaring in a one-word response that Everton would remain interested in bringing the Italian to Merseyside this summer despite closing in on other targets.

Chermiti has completed his medical with no issues and the Toffees do hold an interest in Leicester City forward Patson Daka after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship, but Gnonto still is of interest to Sean Dyche’s side.

Replying to a fan who asked if the Gnonto deal was off, Myers replied with a simple: “No.”

Gnonto is of interest in several Premier League and Serie A sides and the Daily Mail reported (16 July) that the Toffees had, had a £15m bid rejected with Daniel Farke’s side desperate to not sell the 19-year-old winger.

An exciting forward line

Nobody can accuse Everton of not trying to add quality to their forward line this summer, having secured the services of Arnaut Danjuma and now closing in on Chermiti’s signature, all while holding an interest in Gnonto as well.

The Italian forward is an incredibly exciting player but does play his best football in a similar position to Danjuma, meaning one of the two would have to be deployed through the middle of the pitch or in a more defensive role, possibly restricting their ability to impact proceedings.

Everton

Any deal to buy the 19-year-old this summer will likely be expensive as Leeds don’t want to lose one of their brightest young talents, especially when there has already been so much turnover at Elland Road this summer and Tyler Adams could also be set to depart.

Whether the Toffees have the financial capability to complete a deal to sign Gnonto or not is yet to be seen, but if they do he would be an excellent addition to the ranks, but Everton may be better of spending that money in areas that require more reinforcement.
