Everton will be grateful to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, according to BBC Sport journalist Shamoon Hafez.

The England international produced an “incredible” triple save in injury time during the match on Saturday (2 September).

Both clubs picked up their first points of the new Premier League campaign with the exciting 2-2 stalemate at Bramall Lane.

“The Everton goalkeeper was unfortunate to score an own goal in the first half against Sheffield United, but made an incredible triple save in injury time to preserve a point for his team,” Hafez wrote for BBC Sport (2 September).

“The 2-2 draw in an entertaining lunchtime game allowed both sides to collect their first point of the campaign, but Sean Dyche’s men will be grateful for a huge helping hand from their number one.”

Pickford turned from villain to hero during the match with the Blades, with the shot-stopper having scored an own goal in the first half at Bramall Lane.

To be fair to the goalkeeper, however, he knew little about that incident and could do nothing to prevent it, with Cameron Archer’s shot bouncing off the post and off Pickford before going into the back of the net.

Still, he was very disappointed at that moment going into the break, but then went down the tunnel at full-time with heroic status following his triple save.

It was a stunning few seconds from the England man, who undoubtedly saved the Toffees fourth successive league defeat.

Dyche and his other players will be glad of Pickford’s actions, with the Toffees finally getting points on the board after their losses to Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves.

In another positive, the club scored their first goals of the new league campaign, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Arnaut Danjuma finding the back of the net.
