Everton to reintegrate angry Demarai Gray barring unexpected late change - David Ornstein

Everton plan to reintegrate Demarai Gray into the squad after the international break barring any unexpected change, according to David Ornstein.

The journalist reported for The Athletic on Sunday (3 September) that Gray, who has yet to make it into Sean Dyche’s matchday squad in the new season, wishes to depart Goodison Park.

But the Toffees are refusing to sanction a move for the winger, who has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, with their transfer window open until 7 September, Ornstein added.

“Barring an unexpected late change, Everton intend to reintegrate Gray into the squad after he returns from the international break and reassess the situation in January,” Ornstein wrote for The Athletic.

“Gray appeared to vent his frustration at his situation on social media, with a post on his Instagram story reading: ‘Everton fans have always been great with me but it’s so difficult to play for someone who don’t show you respect as a person.’”

Unnecessary distraction

Everton do not need distractions at this moment in time, so Dyche will be delighted that the club made it through the summer transfer window relatively unscathed.

As well as making some much-needed additions, the Toffees got rid of dead wood and players who didn’t want to be there, bringing in some funds in the process.

Moreover, they kept hold of the likes of Amadou Onana and Jordan Pickford, two star players that were constantly linked with Goodison Park exits in recent months.

That should allow Dyche to focus on picking up points in the months to come, although the boss now has a different issue on his hands in the form of Gray.

Perhaps the manager views the player as key to his plans this season, but that has definitely not been the case in these early stages.

The man in the dugout will be desperate for the situation to cool down in the coming weeks, with Gray returning to the team in style the ideal outcome for Dyche.
