Arnaut Danjuma full of praise for Amadou Onana after Everton star shines for Belgium v Azerbaijan

Arnaut Danjuma has sent a two-word message to Everton teammate Amadou Onana after his display for Belgium against Azerbaijan in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

Onana helped the Red Devils to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Saturday (9 September) in a key victory for their Euro 2024 qualification hopes.

Danjuma, a frequent supporter of his teammates online, took to social media to praise Onana after his impressive outing. DH Les Sports claimed (9 September) that the 22-year-old is “becoming more and more essential” to the national side.

Taking to Instagram, Danjuma said: “El Jefe”, meaning “the chief” or “the boss”.

Supportive

Danjuma has shown himself to be a very supportive teammate during his young Everton career and appears to be very passionate about his side performing well.

Onana’s performance against Azerbaijan has been widely acclaimed, despite the growing sense that the Red Devils are underperforming with new coach Domenico Tedesco.

Coincidentally, DH Les Sports also referred to Onana as “the boss”, showing that his reputation as a dominating midfield presence is growing.

Everton

With four successful aerial duels (100%), six successful ground duels, three tackles and two clearances, Onana truly bossed the middle of the park in Baku and was pivotal to Belgium’s success. [SofaScore]

Danjuma and Onana will hope he can keep up this form after the international break, with the Toffees entering a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks, including a home clash against Arsenal and a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to visit Brentford.

While joining up with the national side can be a good change of pace for a player, “El Jefe” and the rest of the Toffees squad have a big job to do when they return to Finch Farm and need to get their first three points as soon as possible.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have a January lifeline after a late-window deal was agreed.
