Journalist shares Everton admission amid on-field struggles for 777 Partners

The potential new Everton owners 777 Partners have had very little on-field success at other clubs, according to Dave Powell.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on 13 September (via BBC Sport), the Liverpool Echo journalist said the US investment firm has a portfolio of “distressed assets and struggling football clubs”.

He added that there has been “considerable work undertaken” to grow its portfolio, but that there has been very little success on the pitch to suggest things will be “any different” for the Toffees following their struggles over the past few years.

“They have very much got a portfolio full of distressed assets and struggling football clubs,” said Powell.

“And while there has been considerable work undertaken in growing their portfolio, there’s been very little in terms of on-pitch success to suggest that this will be any different for Everton.”

Concerning

This will no doubt be a little bit concerning for Everton fans after the past few years have been very difficult for the club and everyone is hoping the situation will improve.

But just because the best solution seems to be for Farhad Moshiri to move on, that doesn’t mean they should accept anyone who comes along.

The Blues have a proud history to protect and that could be quickly ruined if a potential new owner was to come in and add to the mistakes that have been made in recent times.

There are huge questions around whether or not the company can even afford to pull off a deal, let alone look to take the club forward in the future.

It’s time to see what develops and the view the Premier League takes on the matter, as there are several issues to be resolved and it’s unlikely anything will happen within the next few months.
