Garth Crooks drops Everton relegation prediction after 1-0 Premier Leaue loss v Arsenal

Garth Crooks believes Everton will still avoid relegation despite being winless in their opening five games of the Premier League season.

The Toffees fell to a fourth defeat in five games thanks to Leandro Trossard’s winner at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, leaving the team in the relegation zone.

And after naming Gunners defender William Saliba in his BBC Sport team of the week (19 September) for his performance in the game, Crook shared if he thinks the Toffees will be relegated after their poor start.

“There was only going to be one winner here and it was Arsenal,” he wrote.

“As for Everton, it’s going to be another tough season – but fortunately for them, there are three teams I can think of who are worse.”

We all knew this season was going to be another difficult one following on from the last two, but there was some hope that with Sean Dyche in charge we’d be able to get building.

So far the transfer window went fairly well only for it to fall apart when we sold Alex Iwobi on deadline day and then Demarai Gray after the deadline against the manager’s wishes.

And on the pitch the performances haven’t been awful, yet we’ve managed just two goals in five games and only a draw against Sheffield United to shout about.

There’s obviously still plenty of football to play but we’re already finding ourselves in a position where everyone claimed that we should never be in again, which suggests things aren’t good behind the scenes either.

We need results and quickly, but thankfully there are other teams in a similar position and the chances of us being cast away and cut adrift early on are slim right now.
