Dwight McNeil sends five-word message to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Everton win v Brentford
Everton winger Dwight McNeil has sent a five-word message to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his goal against Brentford.
The striker netted his club’s third and final goal in their 3-1 Premier League victory against the Bees on Saturday (23 September).
His finish came just eight minutes after entering the pitch as a substitute, coming on for summer signing and fellow striker Beto.
Sharing a video of McNeil celebrating before Calvert-Lewin had put the ball into the net, Everton posted on Instagram: “Dwight knew.”
The winger then shared the video on his own Instagram, tagging Calvert-Lewin and writing the message: “Never in doubt big guy.”
Natural finisher
The fact that McNeil was celebrating the goal long before it went in speaks volumes of Calvert-Lewin’s finishing abilities, with the former knowing that there was only going to be one outcome when the latter got the ball.
It was a fine through ball from James Garner, and Calvert-Lewin made no mistake as he slotted it home. The goal sent the travelling Everton fans wild, with those supporters having to be patient for such moments this season.
But that should do them and Calvert-Lewin the world of good in terms of confidence levels, which had been very low at Goodison Park in the early stages of the season.
Now, the striker will look to build some momentum from that moment in West London to hopefully find the back of the net plenty of times in the coming months.
Given his fitness issues, he may not start the next match, but the striker will still be very happy if he continues to score as a substitute.
