Sue Smith gushes over ‘brilliant’ Idrissa Gueye moment in Everton v Crystal Palace
Sue Smith was stunned by Idrissa Gueye’s winning goal in the 3-2 victory for Everton against Crystal Palace as she praised the brilliant way he finished the move off.
The midfielder started the move himself before combining with Abdoulaye Doucoure, the ball then found its way back to Gueye and he slotted it into the back of the net despite the pressure of Tyrick Mitchell.
The third goal rounded off the game and secured all three points for Sean Dyche’s side in a hard-fought clash which saw the hosts pull level from a goal behind twice, but a third proved too much.

Smith was watching live on Sky Sports News [11 November, 16:48], as she shared: “It’s 3-2 to Everton and it’s Idrissa Gueye with the third goal.
“He actually starts the move off, he finds a little bit of space just between the defence and the midfield, plays the ball into Doucoure who then continues his run.
“It’s a really good ball through to Idrissa Gueye and that first touch is so good, he takes it across the defender and he has to slide in, and just manages to put it in the back of the net. Brilliant play from Idrissa Gueye and that is 3-2 to Everton.”
A surprise scorer
Gueye’s last Everton goal came in September 2021, and nobody would have expected that duck to be broken today away at Selhurst Park, especially given he started the game on the bench with Amadou Onana the preferred starter in midfield.
It was a goal rather unlike him as well, bursting into the opposition box with a late run, ghosting in behind the defence and a great touch to set him up and take him away from the pressure of Mitchell who very nearly won the ball.

The belief Sean Dyche has instilled in this Everton side in recent weeks was made apparent by Gueye’s performance more than any other. A goal and a strong display in the middle showed the boss has his players on a new level.
With Everton scoring three goals away from home, and one coming from Gueye, fans will be expecting the sky to fall, or perhaps some flying pigs if you look out the window. Dyche has inspired this group and relegation worries may already be a thing of the past.
In other Everton news, Chris Sutton scoffed at a suggestion made before the game.
