James Tarkowski makes ‘desperate’ Everton admission live on air

Everton star James Tarkowski has admitted that he is “desperate” to win the Carabao Cup with the Toffees this season and lift some silverware.

Sean Dyche’s side have enjoyed an excellent start to the domestic cup competition, beating Doncaster Rovers, Aston Villa and Burnley to set up a quarter-final clash with Fulham at Goodison Park on Tuesday 19 December.

While the recent 10-point deduction has ensured that the Toffees’ focus has been securing Premier League safety, Tarkowski has insisted he is targeting cup success as he believes Everton has an excellent chance this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT (12 December, 8:26) he said: “If you look at it, some of the big teams have been knocked out and what a chance for us to go and get some silverware. I’m desperate to win something in my career and this is probably the best chance I’ve had so far.

“The Premier League is our bread and butter like everybody else in this league, but the cup competitions especially when you’re in a quarter-final like we are now, it’s got to get us excited and we’ve got to look forward to that.”

Desperate

It has perhaps been forgotten in the drama of the Toffees’ point deduction and then their recent superb league form that Dyche has led his team within two rounds of a Wembley final and a shot at some silverware.

To the big six clubs, the Carabao Cup may not be viewed as that big a deal, but for Everton, it would represent a huge step forward and a sign of things finally beginning to turn for the better after a miserable few years on the blue half of Merseyside.

Tarkowski’s attitude to the competition speaks volumes about the sort of side Dyche has created at Goodison Park. This team want to fight and scrap for every point and every competition that they’re in to be successful, no matter what stands in their way.

With the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal all already out, there is absolutely no reason the Toffees can’t lift the trophy. They are capable of beating every team left in the competition if they’re at their best and they should be targeting that Wembley final.

Winning is a very good habit to get into, regardless of the competition.
