Andy Burnham raises Everton 'worry' and urges fresh action from supporters

Andy Burnham has shared his "worry" regarding the recent coverage Everton have been getting across the mainstream media.

The Greater Manchester Mayor took to Twitter on Saturday (30 December) to urge supporters to continue protesting inside grounds and online.

Everton were docked a record 10 points by the Premier League in November and have since appealed the decision.

My worry is the mainstream media doesn’t want to bite the PL hand that feeds. Hence the now almost-minimal coverage of the #EFC situation. Many of the league tables don’t even have an asterisk. This is why we need to keep raising the noise in grounds and on social media. 👍🏻

Asked why the story is now getting less coverage than before, Burnham said: "My worry is the mainstream media doesn't want to bite the PL hand that feeds.

"Hence the now almost-minimal coverage of the #EFC situation. Many of the league tables don’t even have an asterisk.

"This is why we need to keep raising the noise in grounds and on social media."

There has indeed been plenty of silence with regards to the situation at Goodison Park over recent weeks.

Supporters have continued their protests, most recently in the midweek defeat to Manchester City in a game watched by millions.

Burnham does have a point with what he says regarding to relationship between the mainstream media - some of, not all - and the Premier League.

Everton's previous upturn in form also perhaps contributed to the Toffees falling out of the news cycle, but now that they are back in relegation danger the points deduction is back in the forefront of supporters' minds.

What should be said is that no decision has been forthcoming with regards to the appeal, and it may well be that the news is positive.

All Everton fans can do is continue asking questions, continue protesting and ensure that this story does not just get brushed under the carpet completely.
