Jordan Pickford named among potential Everton exits for January transfer window

Chris Bascombe has named Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana as two players Everton could sell in January if they are in need of money.

The Toffees are not expected to bring in any new faces this month, particularly with the club still waiting on 777 Partners to complete its takeover.

No players are expected to depart Goodison Park, either, but Bascombe picked out two first-team regulars that could be moved on if needs be.

In an article for The Telegraph [1 January], Bascombe said: “Who could they sell? Everton have valuable assets such as Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana, but it is inconceivable they will weaken their squad unless finances demand it.

“Andre Gomes’s recent return from injury could attract interest, but only if Dyche can replace him.”

No reason to sell

As Bascombe rightly points out, Everton will have absolutely no intention of selling Pickford, Onana or indeed any first-team player this month.

However, if the 777 Partners takeover falls through for whatever reason, then it is not that far-fetched to suggest a player may have to be sold.

Farhad Moshiri is not pumping any money into the club, and funds will have to be raised from somewhere.

Onana has already been linked with a move away in January, but Everton have no reason to sell as things stand.

Pickford is another who could attract a sizable transfer fee but, with three-and-a-half years to run on his contract, there are no doubts over his future.

The summer window will provide a better chance to reassess the squad and conduct incoming and outgoing business. Until then, let’s just hope the squad is not weakened in any way.
