Everton brace themselves as date set for Premier League verdict on financial breaches

Everton will find out on 15 January if they are set to face further action from the Premier League with regards to financial breaches, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Toffees have already been docked a record 10 points this season, which they hope to have overturned – at least partially – after launching an appeal.

The Times reported on 1 December that Everton face the prospect of a second sanction if they are found guilty of breaching spending rules in their latest accounts.

Those latest accounts were submitted by the 31 December deadline, and the Liverpool Echo reported on its online edition on Tuesday (2 January) that all Premier League clubs will be informed of any breaches within the next fortnight.

Double trouble

When the initial report dropped of Everton potentially facing another points deduction, supporters were understandably concerned.

However, the club have moved to play down those fears and it looks as though they have managed to abide by the financial rules in place this time around.

Being deducted 10 points is bad enough, never mind being hit with a second penalty in this battle to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Clubs had to submit their financial results earlier this season so that the Premier League can punish any teams guilty of breaching the rules before the campaign is over.

Following the farce that was Everton’s initial points deduction, that will at least provide clarity.

This basically means that, for the time being, there are two sets of accounts being scrutinised from the Toffees’ perspective.

Let’s just hope there is nothing untoward in these latest accounts, and then we can focus solely on whether or not the appeal against the previous decision is successful or not.

In other Everton news, Jordan Pickford has been named among possible Goodison Park exits in the January window.
