Newcastle to use Miguel Almiron sale to fund January transfer for Everton star Amadou Onana

If Newcastle can sell Miguel Almiron to Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab in the January transfer window, they would use the money to push for Everton star Amadou Onana, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported via their website on 22 January that, while no fee has been agreed yet, negotiations are ongoing over the sale of Almiron after firm interest was shown this month.

The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons named Newcastle's asking price for Almiron at £30million [22 January], which would go just half of the way to Everton's reported £60million valuation of Onana.

Everton desperate to hold on

Everton will be desperate to keep Onana through the January window, and as a result, they must stick to their guns with their high valuation of the midfielder, no matter who comes knocking.

With the threat of a further points deduction looming after a potential second charge for breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Everton may need all of their best players performing at the top of their game if they hope to avoid relegation this season.

Regardless of a second charge, Sean Dyche’s side sit just one point above the relegation zone after their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa at Goodison Park, while Luton below them have a game in hand which could see them leapfrog the Toffees out of the relegation zone.

Onana will be key to any success Everton have this season, and they must stick to their guns and stand firm to keep the Belgian at Goodison Park regardless of interest from elsewhere and whether he may prefer a move to join Arsenal at The Emirates.
